long as i can see the light
Hey, kids. I've been away for a while. Tings have been pretty damn busy in Rockville, Ohio. Or should I call it Rockstown? I personally prefer the CLE appellation, but years ago a group of musicians and hipsters and writers nicked that airline code. No matter. Maybe I'll keep it on there as a tribute to them.
It's been busy, busy, busy. As we head into the holiday months, business at the Beachland is picking up. Likewise, my gigging schedule's been gaining speed; cold weather beckons people indoors and music needs to be had for those events. That's where my cronies and I come into play.
Cobra Verde's got a new video out (well, hell, I don't think the band has ever had a video, so it's a first!). Check it out at the site. I haven't seen it yet, so any feedback would be appreciated. Robert Banks did the footage with us in Cleveland--big up to him, for sure. The hours we spent were long, but a hell of a lot of fun. Hopefully that comes across. Last night we laid down the basic tracks for a cover of Alice Cooper's "Is It My Body", which apparently is going on some comp somewhere; the covers record, which John is tentatively calling "Save the Song, Kill the Singer" (I may have that incorrect) is being pushed back a little bit. Whatever happens, I'm sure hoping we get some more out of town dates going--the last few shows (esp. Saratoga Springs, NY--thanks a million!) have been killer. But hey, we've got shows aplenty, regardless: Grog Shop on the 26th of this month with Amps II Eleven and Terminal Lovers. Color me psyched: Terminal Lovers features Dave from Downside Special (who did some out of town dates with us on our East Coast jaunt last time) with Don Depew (CV's old bassist) and Chris Smith from the almighty Keelhaul. It's going to shred, I kid you not. Amps features guys from the old Stepsister lineup, and one Tony Erba, who I know from my hardcore scene dabblings back from my Speak In Tongues days. Tony and John are both Parma guys, which is why I'm billing this as the "Parma Bowl". From there we're doing a show on the 29th of Nov. in Columbus (details to come) and a Christmas Recovery Show with the Dirtbombs (their latest CD is a total gem of rock n' roll) and Coffinberry (possibly one of Cleveland's most lauded bands).
But that's not all: my mellow pop ensemble (well, it's Mike Uva's. He's the singer.) is opening for the wondrous Clem Snide at the Beachland this Thursday. Not only does Mike have a new CD to offer of material for sale, but we've got the Dreadful Yawns/New Planet Trampoline's most excellent Dave Molnar, a bonafide guitar phenom who's elevated us to "real band" status (IMHO). It's gonna be really, really good. Trust me on this. Come early and see us do our Brit-pop by way of Americana thang.
There's much more to relate. The day moves on, however, and I should get a motorin' on my day.
