terror of the impulse buy, OR, read the fine print, dummy

So I used auctionstealer.com to bid on a Peavey MAX Bass head. The mention of "800 Watts" sold me.

"800 watts", in my mind, conjures images of nuclear test results. Subsequently I have images of myself truly and totally rocking out, without having to worry about the horrible burr of sound that comes from my bass head when I'm cranked, trying to keep up with Jeffo or Mark and feeling just unkempt and overdriven.

I used auctionstealer, and as CV's drummer often has with his ebay bids in the past, I won. I got a deal on the thing, right? $200. However, I never bothered to read the actual weight of this bass monstrosity.

85 mother-of-god pounds.

The shipping is going to kill me, if my back and arms eventually don't.

love is love is a sign of creation

in a surprise turn of events, i rode with wasco to chicago so that we might both witness the mighty lungfish, on their final show of a two-night stand in that city. this required my immune system to beat a cranky bug the night before. once the virus had been slept and sweated out of my body, i gave the word and off we went in the chilly cleveland a.m.

it was easily one of the best shows i've ever seen. that's all i'll speak on the matter to keep from slipping into a reverie, or worse, a case of needless verbosity. anyway, words can't do justice to such a deeply moving experience. i will say this: i met new friends, discovered old acquaintances, and was surprised--and thoroughly rocked--by the appearance of a certain mr. chris thompson (circus lupus, monorchid, skull control) whose band, bloodshot heroes, opened for lungfish.

chicago is one of my favorite cities. good food, art aplenty, and a jaw-dropping multitude of beautiful women.
